When Urban brought Gigi to FGCU the summer before her freshman year, they toured campus on a golf cart. And, hell, my sons are afraid to crash on the wakeboards. 'She's driven a lot like her dad it seems like to me. it was almost as if something clicked,' Wilcox said. So was Wilcox when Meyer nailed her first tantrum ? a back-flip ? at 16. She was ecstatic and immediately raced to her dad, who calls her 'Gee.' She wanted to show off: 'He watched me and I flipped, and he was so amazed.' Wilcox taught Meyer her first invert at 14.

There she met Andy Wilcox, a former professional trick skier and a Gators booster. Beach house was the first thought, but Gigi convinced them to go with a lake one ('more stuff to do') on the Sante Fe, just outside tiny Melrose, a half-hour from UF's campus. A setter on the Eagles' volleyball team, Meyers said she figured it would 'take a miracle' to place second. Gigi Meyer never imagined winning, as she splits her time at FGCU on volleyball courts, the classroom and the lake. 'They were calling me the Dragon Slayer,' said Meyer, the daughter of Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer.
The 5-foot-7, 20-year-old dominated the field, defeating Shawna Hoffman ? a semipro rider has competed in the IWSF Wakeboard World Championships as a member of Team USA. Last month, Meyer captured the Women's A title at the NCAA wakeboarding championships in Shreveport, La. But she's quickly making a name for herself in the wakeboarding world.
